Each year the RIVERSIDE CHILDREN'S THEATRE creative staff turns the children's theatre into a spooky maze in celebration of the ghoulish HALLOWEEN season.  With a new theme each year there are always surprises in store for those brave enough to enter.  Creepy and not so creepy parts allow for something for all ages - and it's the Riverside Children's Theatre kids who deliver the scares!  This year's themes are "HORROR HIGH" and for the little ones, "SCARY SCHOOLYARD."  One trip $5, Two trips $8.

This summer marks the 25th year of "SUMMERSTAGE" productions at the RIVERSIDE
CHILDREN'S THEATRE! Thousands of high school and college students return to this

I try to take in all the shows, I love the wonderful kids that make up this wonderful place.
It is great watching them grow as children and also as actors.  As they grow up and move on,

VERO BEACH - Mark Twain's classic novel "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" has spawned more than a dozen movies and television series, but only one stage adaptation - the multiple Tony Award-winning "Big River."

The musical is being produced by the Summer Stage program of Riverside Children's Theatre, and will open Friday at the Anne Morton Theatre in Vero Beach.

"It's like homecoming," said director Kevin Quillinan, referring to the returning college students who formerly participated in the program and who will join the 37-member cast.

Vero Beach High School student Nate Karabensh plays Huck on his journey along the Mississippi River, with college-bound Timothy Chastain in the role of Jim, a slave trying to escape to freedom in the North.

"The show is very true to the book, and raises serious issues of prejudice, segregation and slavery," Quillinan said. "That has led to some stimulating cast discussions. Two of the numbers, 'Worlds Apart' and 'Free At Last' are very powerful.

"Overall, though, the music is a fun and uplifting mix of bluegrass, gospel and ballads."

Music director Karen Wiggins hand-picked the five students who will join her in providing the music.

"People will be amazed at the musical and vocal talent on display," she said.

The musicians will be part of the set, part of Quillinan's goal of creating an "immersive experience," he said. "I want everyone in the theater to feel connected. That's why the audience will be seated on three sides of the performers. They'll pretty much be sitting on the banks of the river."

For the first time, professionals from the neighboring Riverside Theatre will work in all phases of a production at the children's theater.

"They are enabling the students to witness the art that's involved in making theater," Quillinan said. "The message is: ‘This is what it takes to continue in this profession.'"
